New Alberta Regulations

The Lieutenant Governor in Council made the Regulations Amending the Alberta Sex Offender Information Registration Regulations pursuant to subsection 18(1) of the Sex Offender Information Registration Act (O.C. 99/2012; March 15, 2012).

This amendment is in force on March 15, 2012.

Body Armour Control Act – In force June 15, 2012

The Body Armour Control Act (SA 2010 cB-4.8), formerly Bill 12, has been proclaimed in force on June 15, 2012  (OC 64/2012, February 23, 2012).

“This legislation will allow the Crown and local police to seize body armour from individuals who do not have a permit for its legitimate use.” (March 16, 2010)

In addition, the Lieutenant Governor in Council made the Body Armour Control Regulation (OC 65/2012, February 23, 2012; AR 32/2012, February 24, 2012).

This Regulation comes into force on June 15, 2012.

Witness Security Act – Proclaimed in force on April 1, 2012

The Witness Security Act (SA 2010 cW-12.5), formerly Bill 11, has been proclaimed in force on April 1, 2012 (Alta OC 123/2012, March 15, 2012).

“This legislation will allow the Crown and local police agencies to provide short-term security for witnesses who feel apprehensive about testifying in court.”

Bill 25 – Child and Youth Advocate Act – Remaining sections in force April 1, 2012

The remaining sections (except for section 32 which was proclaimed in force on December 15, 2011) of the Child and Youth Advocate Act, SA 2011 cC-11.5 (formerly Bill 25) have been proclaimed in force on April 1, 2012 (O.C. 29/2012).
 
This legislation “creates an independent Child and Youth Advocate who reports to the Legislature.” “The role of advocating for children and youth in the child intervention system will be expanded to include the youth criminal justice system.” (Alberta Human Services News Release, November 21, 2011)
